History: Ace @ Final Fantasy Wiki

Personality:

Like each member of Akademeia's elite Class Zero, Ace has been entrusted with a unique ability. Representing trust and acceptance, he stands behind the power of perservering through life's trials and embracing one's fate, and in a world torn by countless wars such determination is an invaluable quality.

He's also one of the few to retain fragments of his memories of the dead, as evident by his vague recollections of the meetings with Izana. He's isolated in his experiences, and just as secretive about his feelings, which he brushes away so as not to let them become a weakness - after all, the role of a leader comes with a certain sense of responsibility.

As a result, he comes across as a composed individual, if a little awkward. Having spent his childhood in a closed-off training facility, he sometimes displays a lack of understanding of basic social norms despite his best intentions, as shown in his rocky relationship with Machina. Facing a completely different point of view, Ace is quick to be an unnecessarily harsh judge, much to his teammate's frustration, but while he might sometimes act hot-headed under pressure, there's no denying that he cares dearly about his friends. Although he starts off as a bit of a loner, as the story progresses, he becomes incredibly appreciative of the memories the Class Zero has created by working as a team. At one point, he notes, they have all been able to look past their differences and become a real family.

Speaking of family, there is one person that Ace seems to be trusting unconditionally - Arecia Al-Rashia, known as Mother to her beloved Class Zero students. In everything he does, Ace wishes to prove his worth by making her proud of his achievements. She's the one who teaches him a lullaby that accompanies him throughout his later years. Although it's the only song he knows, he finds great comfort in the somber melody.

A diligent learner, Ace is one of Class Zero's best students, being well-versed in the world's history and lore. He's ambitious and competitive without turning arrogant. When he befriends Izana and asks him to assist in a large-scale operation - an otherwise unachievable dream for a trainee - he's driven purely by a desire to fight side by side with a friend.

The mighty yellow creatures known as Chocobos have a very special place in his heart. His days off are spent at the ranch, where he looks out for the feathery companions stationed under Dominion's command. It's his safe haven, and the birds easily bring out the soft side to his calm demeanour. Amazed by their strength and beauty, he wishes to one day have a Chocobo farm of his own - it's a concept hardly befitting someone of his rank; a small dream of a simpler life.

Even so, he knows it's out of his reach. As the final day approaches, the cadets slowly come to acknowledge their mortality and the inevitable end. For a teenager who has never been able to experience life outside of the battlefield, it's a bitter realisation, but Ace doesn't hold any feelings of regret. Fighting fear in the only way he knows, he comforts his siblings with the words of an old lullaby....
